Spyglass is an accessibility tool built to inspect web page text elements and calculate color contrast compliance locally on your machine.

By default, Spyglass operates completely offline. It does not secretly track your browsing history, monitor your keystrokes, harvest session analytics, or automatically transmit data about the websites you visit.

2. Information Collected via User-Initiated Features

Spyglass only processes or transmits data when you explicitly choose to interact with the following features:

• Local Test Saving & CSV Exports: If you use the "Save Test" feature, configuration details (timestamp, URL, page title, and color choices) are saved strictly to your local browser storage (chrome.storage.local). We have no access to this data unless you export it as a CSV yourself.
• The "Send to SeaMonster" Feature: If you choose to use the community contribution feature, the extension packages a snapshot of your active contrast test to our public log. This payload strictly includes:
  • Website Metadata: The specific URL and Page Title of the webpage you are currently auditing.
  • Audit Metrics: The contrast ratios, detected text elements (sizes/weights), and color hex codes.
  • Optional Submitter Data: If manually typed by you, an optional Name and Organization.
  • Optional Email Address: If provided, your email is used solely to associate your submission with a Gravatar profile icon if you checked the opt-in box. Your email address is kept strictly private, encrypted, and is never displayed publicly or shared.

3. How We Use Collected Data

Any data explicitly submitted via the "Send to SeaMonster" feature is used exclusively to populate our community accessibility registry and improve global web compliance standards. We do not use this data for marketing, tracking, behavioral analysis, or advertising.

4. Third-Party Sharing and Data Minimization

We adhere firmly to data minimization guidelines.

• We never sell, trade, rent, or lease your personal metadata or browsing history to third-party advertisers or brokers.
• The only external outbound request made by the extension is the user-directed form submission directly to our secure endpoints at seamonsterstudios.com.

5. Data Retention & Security

Local history logs persist safely in your browser until you clear your extension data or delete the extension. Shared database records are hosted securely on our company servers with active access controls to block unauthenticated manipulation.
